Leif wrote half this album on his own while studying Icelandic and Philosophy in Reykjavik. The other half was written on his return to Montreal, where he recorded and self-produced his album at Breakglass Studios (Wolf Parade, Patrick Watson, Besnard Lakes). Arranged and orchestrated entirely by Leif, Inland revolves primarily around Vollebekk?s acoustic guitar and stories, with the occasional addition of piano, harmonic or drums.
Inland was released in Canada in January 2010 on Nevado Records (Bahamas, Yukon Blonde), meeting with an enthusiastic response from the Canadian press. The album came out in Europe and the USA in autumn 2010, and Leif spent the rest of last year travelling the globe in support of this. In between concerts, however, he is already working on a 2nd album at the Hotel2Tango, an analogue studio in the Mile End district of Montreal, with Howard Bilerman (Arcade Fire, Godspeed) in the producer?s chair.
Asked to describe this forthcoming album, Leif replies: ?Neil Young wanted to sound like a cross between Dylan and the Stones. I want to sound like Hank Williams meets Sigur Ros. Hopefully, I’ll fail and get somewhere else?.
